First Christmas

Time goes too fast, and before I knew it, he was almost one. Being a huge fan of Christmas, I couldn't wait to recreate the magic of the festive season with my son, and he had a number of exceedingly cute Christmas outfits to get into the spirit. But the Santa suit made the nicest photos, as he opened his gifts on Christmas Day.

From a photography perspective, I only ever use natural or available light, so the winter months are generally difficult to photograph (snow being the exception), as there is so little light, and so few hours of daylight. Hence, I have many photos of this special season, but very few of them have made it onto this blog for public consumption (and most reside in my private yearbooks). I did love this 'Santa set,' though.

Winter Woollens

These photos were taken in the run up to his first Christmas. We had a very difficult time in December of little Ro's first year, when he was eleven months old, and was admitted to hospital with pneumonia. It was a horrendously scary and stressful time, but fortunately, after a five day stint in the children's ward, he was fully recovered (and has mercifully, never been so poorly since). I think these photos were taken in celebration of his recovery, when he was back to his happy self (and wrapped up warm!)

My usual indecision over black and white versus colour version!

Veggie Baby

This is probably one of my favourite themed photos that I have ever taken of little Ro. He was around ten months here, and I think it was this photograph that truly got me bitten by the dressing-up bug, and I began to think of settings to compliment the costumes I bought. He's such a sweet-pea here, it makes me nostalgic.
It was also this photo that prompted people to tell me that I should submit my photos to stock galleries, for commercial use. It's taken me three years to make the decision to make my photos of my son public. I haven't yet submitted to stock sites, but at least now I am putting them 'out there' (and I still take photos for no other reason than my own enjoyment - I don't think that motivation will ever change).

Halloweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen!

Little Ro's first Halloween, and his first pumpkin. He loved this shoot, and although he was too young to speak at the time, he astonished me a year later by pointing to a pumpkin, and clearly saying 'pumpkin - knife - face.' He obviously remembered the experience of carving it, and what it was called. They take it all in! Don't be deceived. ;-)
I particularly loved his 'scary face' in these shots.

Go Team GB!

2012 was a patriotic year, here in the UK. It was the year the Olymics came to London, and of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Little Ro was especially proud to be British, the first year of his life! He would have been about seven months old, here. I posted this photo on a 'Go Team GB' group on facebook, where it received multiple shares, and I was contacted by various groups (including a nursery) asking if they could use it to promote their services.

Baby Days

While most of the photos I upload here are 'themed,' some are just because. And these are just because I miss those baby days. (And sometimes, I can't choose between colour, and black and white).

I Like Driving In My Car

And, who wouldn't? This is quite the automobile!

Easter Bunny

The next 'themed' photo-shoot I did with my son, wasn't until Easter, when he was just over three months old. It's hard to say whether he enjoyed the shoot, as this was the outcome... (One very sleepy bunny).

Baby Bear

This, I suppose, is the photo that launched this blog, although I didn't know that at the time. I took it on my birthday (which is just five days after my son's), when he was a tiny newborn, only five days old. It wasn't the first photo I took of him, not by any means. But in this photo, he is dressed as a little bear. I wouldn't say this was planned, but having arrived sooner than expected, and smaller than expected (over new year, when all the shops were shut), my little boy wasn't well furnished with well-fitting clothes, at that point. This tiny bear suit was one of few items that fitted, purchased for him by his doting Momo (my Mum - Mummy's Mummy). Being born on New Year's Eve meant it was chilly at that time of year, so he got his wear out of it.
'Oh look,' I said to myself, cooing over my newly born, precious, sleeping son. 'He looks like one of my teddies, and is about the same size.' And I carried my sleeping child (that's all he did, back then) over to my stuffed toys, and propped him against them. I took a few snaps, and that was that... Except it wasn't... It was the first of many...
